Day 9 – Ultimate Self Care

Day 9 - Ultimate Self-Care

“When the well is dry, we know the worth of water” Benjamin Franklin

As I write this post I’ve just come back from having a wonderfully amazing 90 minute Kahuna massage and my body, soul and spirit are thanking me for it!

It’s amazing how we can often take our human need for self-care for granted, resigning it to the bottom of the week’s duties as if it didn’t really matter. But truth be told, your soul craves for the affection, care and love that would fill its vessel and allow you to operate at optimum proficiency.

Just as your car needs to be filled weekly with petrol and serviced on a regular basis, our bodies and spirits need regular rest, replenishment and self-love.

Sometimes we can find ourselves holding back from this because we choose to put other people’s needs ahead of our own, whether that be our spouse, our children or even our employer. Often we may even hold back out of guilt. After all, how could we possibly take 4 days off from ‘life’ and go on a silent retreat, or even create the space for a regular Pilates or yoga session?

If we’re not careful our ego can very easily get lost in the constant barrage of activity that can keep us from truly connecting with the divine power and presence of our soul. And yet here in this space of self-nourishment, self-acceptance and self-love can be found the doorway to even greater riches.

Unless we consciously choose to put ourselves first life will simply fill our lives with all the ‘other stuff’ that we believe is important. But just like the young lover who falls head over heels in love with the girl of his dreams, when we commit to following our hearts and embracing our soul’s desires completely, we create the environment for true love, respect and self-care to flourish. We craft our own tiny piece of heaven on earth, and it is here at the junction of self-value and self-worthiness that we can refuel and find the energy and vitality to bring our soul’s dreams to life.

The Practice

Contrary to belief, acts of self-care and self-love do not have to be big things. Often the smaller acts we embrace on a regular basis are usually the most powerful. Taking a walk by the beach, embracing an act of just 5 minutes silence, not reading the paper or watching the news for a week, changing the sheets on your bed with fresh ones, buying yourself some flowers, or even simply consciously breathing deeply can activate greater levels of life-force energy in our lives.

So your quest today is simple. Make a list of at least 10+ activities or experiences that give you energy, that bring you alive and restore your life-force.

  1. Once you have your list, write each of the experiences or activities on a single Post-it Note or small piece of paper and place it in a glass or jar. Then place the jar in a place where you can connect with it each day, such as on your desk, your bedroom nightstand or the bathroom.

  2. Next time your energy feels low, simply go to your glass or jar and draw out an activity and then allow yourself to experience it.

  3. The key here is to revel, enjoy and surrender yourself completely to the moment of each experience.

The Affirmation

I am the source of divine love and allow myself to be filled wholly and completely

The Question

How can I fully honour my soul and spirit today?

The Thought

As I reward myself with love and blessings the universe rewards me with new life.
